The decade I realised that happiness wasIt's been a decade of older mothers and of fertility treatments becoming the norm. It started with Cherie Blair's high-profile pregnancy at the age of 45 in 2000, and ended with a British woman of 66 giving birth to an IVF baby created with a donor egg.

I don't know if getting up three times a night is any easier in your youth: I only know that it was made possible for me by the fact I was always keen to see my miraculous and lovely baby - even at three in the morning. One thing about older mothers is that they're very grateful.

In many ways, this decade of egg counts, dirty nappies, milky bottles and toddler taming has been the best one of them all.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
