Unexplained Infertility

In the interview with Julie Menin for her Give and Take program, Dr. David says most fertility problems can be explained, and often the explanation – and the fix – is very simple and does not require more complicated measures such as IVF. “I don’t believe in unexplained infertility,” says David.
Some of the most common possible reasons for infertility:
· the woman runs or exercises too much
· the man takes tub baths or Jacuzzi
· infections in the man
· mild and therefore undetected infections in the woman
· sperm antibodies, in which the man could be allergic to his own sperm or the woman could be allergic to sperm
· underweight and overweight women
· environmental issues such as hormones in red meat, pesticides, chemicals in makeup; any of these might have an effect, and often more profoundly on men’s sperm
Dr. David says it’s up to a woman’s doctor to play medical detective to determine what’s wrong. “You really have to delve into it in great detail,” he says.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.

Thanks for this information, Catherine! I too believe that all infertility can be explained. Many times it's very difficult, though, to find out exactly what's up. I got pregnant at 39 and 41 (both times naturally) and brought two beautiful, healthy boys into this world. My infertility was never determined. I believe it just took longer because I was of "advanced age." I believe maca helped a great deal with improving my egg quality. You can read more about my story at the site below. Have a great day!
