Q. How did you become interested in fertility issues? What percent of your practice deals with fertility issues?

A. I became interested in fertility issues after finding that (infertility) was increasing in the population at an alarming rate -- and it was a common complaint with my patients since I specialized in women's health disorders.

Since Western-medical fertility treatments are usually not covered by health insurance, and in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles can cost from $10,000 to $15,000, I thought it was reasonable to offer Chinese medicine to those who couldn't afford IVF cycles and to offer it to those undergoing IVF to help increase their success rates.

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
