Having had three babies in her 20s and a fourth at the age of 40, Jan Andersen knows all about the age differences in pregnancy.
Miss Andersen, now 46, had her fourth daughter, Lauren, with a new boyfriend, Mike. Throughout her pregnancy with Lauren, she suffered complications and said her age was frequently mentioned by health professionals.
But she described the pregnancy and birth as "straightforward", and defends the decision of mothers who choose to have babies later in life.
She has set up a website, www.mothersover40.com, to support older women through pregnancy.
She said: "It is very presumptuous to assume that everybody is going to meet their right partner by age 20-35.
"Some women will continue being able to conceive easily into their 40s."

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.
