Drs won't prescribe progesterone in Australia

Catherine McDiarmid-Watt | Saturday, May 05, 2007 | 3 comments

Did you know that there actually are those who sell OTC progesterone in Australia?

This one has independent dealers in Australia:
All On Health
http://allonhealth.com/natural-progesterone-infertility-sub.htm

and there MUST be drs prescribing it in Australia, because I found this:

Quote:
NATURAL HORMONES IN AUSTRALIA
Natural hormones, including progesterone, are a prescription-only item in Australia.

Compounding Pharmacy
MJ Health & Beauty,
103 Isabella St, Wingham, NSW, 2429, Australia, Ph: 1300 66 90 45,

Went to their forum and found this
(but go read the rest of the postings for more info):

Quote:
You can rest assured that our cream is not a "Wild Yam" cream. We use imported natural progesterone that is structurally identical to the progesterone produced in the female body.

Your doctor will advise you as to the usage instructions. We supply the cream with a small "spoon" to help you get a measured dose.

Our most common products are 2% and 4% 100g creams. They are in a macadamia base, which we believe to be the best base we have found so far.

Postage costs are the same Australia-wide: $5.50 for orders under $55.00, otherwise free.

Their product ranges from $20-$35 AUS

About Catherine: I am mom to three grown sons, two grandchildren and two rescue dogs. After years of raising my boys as a single mom, I remarried a wonderful man who had never had a child of his own. Unexpectedly, I found myself pregnant at 49!
Sadly we lost that precious baby at 8 weeks, and decided to try again. Five more losses, turned down for donor egg, foster care and adoption due to my age and losses - we have accepted that there will be no more babies in our house.

Mike and Justin from MJ Health and Beauty seem very knowledgeable and helpful - Mike gave me 20 minutes of his time during the middle of the day over their free-call number last month.

What he said was that progesterone is on the list of S4 controlled drugs here in Australia, so you need a prescription in order to get a pharmacy to make it up, or even to possess it technically. I don't think the police are going to come knocking on my door - "excuse me madam is that a jar of progesterone on your bathroom vanity? May I please see your prescription?" - but I prefer dealing with an Australian company rather than ordering it without a prescription overseas. For one, the invaluable advice Mike gave me over the phone would have cost a lot more if I was calling to the US!

Hi - I found your page when I was doing some due diligence on MJ Health and Beauty myself, and thought I'd come back today and give you my experience in dealing with them.

As a medium-term user of natural progesterone I was convinced there had to be somewhere charging a more reasonable price than what I was paying for Pro-Femme which I was getting from WA each month. At less than half the price, I was intrigued to say the least when I came across Mike and Justin's homepage.

I was a little concerned about doing business with an internet-based company, and also whether I was able to switch over from using Pro femme to Mike's "generic" natural progesterone. I eventually took the two hour drive out to Wingham, in country NSW in order to address my concerns. I was pleasantly surprised to see a large, busy bricks-and-mortar pharmacy. And Mike was just the most helpful person! He spent the better part of an hour during what I imagine was the busiest time of the day (sorry Mike!!) explaining what exactly he does, how to approach my doctor, and that yes, not only could I start using his cream immediately (we called my GP while I was in the pharmacy and had him scan and email through a new prescription, so I walked out with a jar of cream that day!) but also that he can process prescriptions written for "Pro Femme" because it contains the same active ingredient.

Thanks Mike, the extra $30 a month in savings in my pocket is greatly appreciated!!

Hi - I know I'm late to the party but just wanted to add that I too switched from Lawley's "profeme" to the natural progesterone cream that Mike and Justin compound at MJ Health & Beauty and haven't looked back. Without going into too much details I had some problems with the Profeme and tried the cream at MJ on the recommendation of a friend. The difference is like night and day, and cheaper too! Thanks guys!!
